Scope and Contents

The Benjamin Sawyer Collection consists of account books, diaries, farm books and diaries of various members of the Sawyer family. Benjamin Sawyer was a prominent figure in the Alton, Illinois community as a graduate of Shurtleff College and an inspector of public improvement. The collection also contains documents related to other members of the Sawyer family including John Y. Sawyer, a lawyer of Vandalia, Illinois, and Seth T. Sawyer. Travel accounts of trips to Colorado, Arizona, and the New England area are also included.
