Frank Fries Collection
Scope and Contents
The Frank Fries collection consists of the personal and business correspondence of Frank Fries, labor arbitrator of Gillespie, Illinois. This collection contains copies of arbitration decisions made by Fries in coal mining grievance cases in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Utah from the early 1920s to 1968. Correspondence with United Mine Workers of America officials and leaders of the various coal companies is included. A few materials relate to Fries's career as Congressman from the 21st Illinois District, 1937-1941
